Proof that Jesus is real 2
I began a series last night on the proof that the bible is the truth. I want to talk tonight on 8 tests that help prove to me the New Testament gospels are in real. They lay out some questions that might make you a reader consider to do more reading on this topic. Here are the tests or points I want to hit tonight
Do we know why the Gospels were written? Yes we do. Luke tells us in the beginning of his account this
Luke 1 Inasmuch as many have taken in hand to set in order a narrative of those things which have been fulfilled among us, 2 just as those who from the beginning were eyewitnesses and ministers of the word delivered them to us, 3 it seemed good to me also, having had perfect understanding of all things from the very first, to write to you an orderly account, most excellent Theophilus, 4 that you may know the certainty of those things in which you were instructed.[1]
Luke is writing to tell of the Lord and report the Lords work on earth. John also has a intentions in mind in the Last few things he writes. He wants his reader to know the Lord and come to him to have life forever. Also one of the reasons they wrote is to preserve the teachings and to spread the Gospel to them that were not there. I also believe that the Lord himself penned each of the Gospels. If you read them there is much of the same things in all three and I know the 4 writers did not confirm each other each was written in a separate time and place.
Were the Gospels a bunch of wishful thinking or legends about Jesus? Here is why this is not a tail. If the truth was not in them the books would of not lasted so long and be so blasted. Also take into thoughts that books and scrolls were not all that popular and much depended on oral talking. Many of Jesus followers here the stories by people that told people that told people. If the people tried to dispel the stories and change them in the temples and town squares people that knew them corrected them. Also like I said last night the truths were recorded within 2 years of Jesus on the earth.
Is the truth in the Gospels? Each writer died a horrid death. They would not deny Jesus or change their accounts of him ever. They died for them. Also the person each wrote about Jesus was a man that had tons of integty. Why would they lie about Jesus and what would they get for it? They died for the most part for this.
Then why do they not have the same things in their writing? This is a truth that might make it better to see they are real. If four networks went to cover a robbery they all will have four points of view. If all the networks had the same stories then they all will be dull. The one might have man A and C while another network had person d. So they all have other points of view. I think having 4 views of Jesus is a good thing and you learn more from others that were with him. And note the similar points they all hit on the nose.
Did the writer cover up things to make them look better than they really are? Who in their right mind inventing a religion will make the requirements harder than need be. Jesus wanted us to be perfect and they also wrote that lusting in your heart broke the laws of the Lord. If I were making things up I would of made it easier so I could follow the norms and look good. Jesus was not made out to be less than demanding God. He said it might cost you all your worldly processions to make him your king. Who wanted to do that? Look at Peter in the book he helped write. Peter did not look good denying Jesus 3 times. If I were going to invent a religion I am going to make it easy and make me look like the good man. Jesus does not he even became nothing and died and rose. All for our sins. It is a good mans inventions; it is a God breathed book.
One more thing in this writing Jews said they knew Jesus did miracles. Here is a faith that is not for Jesus saying he did what the bible said he did. They do not agree where they came from but they say he did them.
